Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY)
TCTSY recognizes that trauma can affect the body and mind in profound ways, often leading to symptoms such as hypervigilance, dissociation, and a sense of disconnection from the self. By integrating principles of safety, choice, and empowerment, TCTSY seeks to help individuals rebuild a sense of agency and trust within their own bodies.
In a TCTSY session, the focus is not on achieving specific poses or physical performance. Instead, participants are encouraged to explore their own bodily sensations and make choices based on what feels safe and comfortable for them. The instructor provides clear and supportive guidance, offering options and modifications to ensure that each person's boundaries and limitations are respected.
Through gentle movement, breathwork, and mindfulness practices, TCTSY aims to regulate the nervous system, increase body awareness, and cultivate a sense of present-moment awareness. The emphasis on choice and empowerment helps individuals develop a stronger connection to their bodies, fostering self-compassion and promoting healing.
Research suggests that trauma-sensitive yoga can be an effective complement to traditional therapy for trauma survivors, offering a somatic approach that addresses the physiological and psychological impacts of trauma. By integrating trauma-sensitive practices into the yoga community, TCTSY promotes inclusivity, accessibility, and a greater understanding of the complexities of trauma.
